Dorrie is a friendly dinosaur that appears in Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 64 DS.

Appearance[]

The character is a dark blue Plesiosaurus with a lighter hued neck and belly, as well as a pink/rose colored tongue, that is heavily based on the mythological Loch Ness monster from the famous Scottish legend.

Behaviour[]

When Mario first encounters her, Dorrie is found swimming in the lower lake, which is found in the deepest section of Hazy Maze Cave.

If Mario leaves her alone, Dorrie will continously circles a small island which contains a Power Star.

If Mario swims and draws near, Dorrie won't harm him, though she will cause him to skid off her fins.

On the outside of the lake, there is also a small area, where Mario can stand and reach a slightly higher ground. Once Dorrie passes by, Mario can use this moment to leap onto her back.

From this point onwards, Dorrie will carry him while she continues circling the small island.

Though, if the player is skilled enough, Mario can attempt to leap onto Dorrie's head, from where on he is able to control Dorrie. If the player changes the direction, Mario faces, via the control stick, they can change the direction Dorrie faces and thus swims towards, as well.

Through the means of riding Dorrie, Mario can reach the aforementioned little island, which he can't on his own, as his water surface jump is too low, and thus reach the Power Star to claim his own.

Locations[]

Dorrie is exclusive to the little lake in Hazy Maze Cave. She is never found anywhere else.
